We took all but one of the tracks and made a pretty little cd which we will be using to raise funds for our full length studio album! we are giving away the album for free right now just to help spread the word and would greatly appreciate feedback and donations! ;)

]]> http://thebrotherlandmusic.com/new-live-tracks-recorded-at-smiths-olde-bar-now-available/feed 0 Columbus in the middle of May http://thebrotherlandmusic.com/columbus-in-the-middle-of-may?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=columbus-in-the-middle-of-may http://thebrotherlandmusic.com/columbus-in-the-middle-of-may#comments Mon, 16 May 2011 17:54:04 +0000 Beard http://thebrotherlandmusic.com/?p=224 The rain chased a lot of people away tonight in Columbus.  Even though we only played to a medium size crowd, The Brotherland rocked Scruffy Murphy’s.  I would rate the performance as an “A-”.  We played 3 sets with the second set being the better performance.  Craig broke out a new jam he wrote called “No It’s Not”.  It sounds good and will only get better once we iron out a few kinks and I write a funky bass line for the solo and bridge.  We got requests for Skynard and SRV tonight and got the most applause with “Sympathy for the Devil” by the Rolling Stones.  That’s something interesting I’ve noticed from playing with The Brotherland over the past 7 months.  You can never tell how a crowd is going to react.  Some nights they love the Stones and some nights they love The Beatles.  Some nights the tipsy Cougars own the dance floor.  Some nights it’s the young.  Either way we love them all.  The Brotherland has a show coming up out in Conyers on June 4th (Sat).  Come out to The Mellow Mushroom as we rock the parking lot stage.  Ladies, Skip says he will play with no shirt on.  Keep it sexy!

Last Thursday we played Tara Humata as usual and had a good time! We then made our way down to Columbus GA for the weekend to play Scruffy Murphy’s Irish Pub! We absolutely love playing there for a number of reason… if you want em here they are in no particular order…

1. Breda Gleeson (owner) is awesome, she treats us like family and we cannot thank her enough for it.
2. the place sounds amazing.
3. the people love good music and love to get down.
4. it is nice to get away for a weekend.

that is just to name a few but we really did have a good time and we look forward to returning May 13th and 14th.

well we took advantage of the stage on sunday morning before driving back to Atlanta to practice “Crosstown Traffic” by Jimi Hendrix for the 500 Songs for Kids show at Smith’s Olde Bar. For more information on one of the most amazing organizations on the planet please check them out at www.songsforkidsfoundation.org.   it was a beautiful day in sunny columbus and after some time in the sun we cranked everything up before they opened to rehearse our little asses off.  the rehearsal certainly paid off because we pretty much nailed it… not perfect, but i am pretty sure we made Jimi proud! ;)

it was not long after leaving columbus that we found ourselves at smith’s olde bar getting ready to jam it again.

The music park behind the masquerade made for an awesome backdrop for the shoot and we had a number of good shots! Victor has been a good friend of ours for some time now and is an incredibly talented photographer! He does amazing work and even with our last minute shoot without much planning he was able to pull off some amazing pictures! We cannot thank him enough for making us look cool! or at least doing a better job than we can at said task! ;) the brotherland

The show at the masquerade we pretty well… i guess you could call it an “intimate” show because we only had a small number of our closest friends there. it was a tuesday night so we did not expect much but it was a good time none-the-less. Sunset love affair was pretty bad ass and i def see them making some moves with a some solid rock riffs and funky jams! As always our boys CRANE tore it up! They really are making a name for themselves with an incredible sound. We also met Zach of “Liars and Lovers”, (filling in on bass for the douche that left our boys high and dry) and we look forward to sharing the stage with them some time in the future!

Great people and the room sounds awesome! We are looking forward to heading back there soon, trying to book some dates in May currently. A special thank you to the super cool staff for taking care of us! We received a lot of positive feedback from the patrons who really loved our Bob Markley and Jimi Hendrix covers.

Speaking of Jimi Hendrix, we will be performing “Crosstown Traffic” on Sunday May 1st at the 500 Songs For Kids Fundraiser at Smiths Olde Bar. We are really looking forward to this one! We have had a blast the last couple years playing and if you know anything about the Songs For Kids Foundation you know that they are doing some incredible things for disabled kids here in Atlanta! Josh Rifkind, the SFK founder, is an incredible dude and is really making a difference for a number of kids! Ha!  In all seriousness we are super proud of our little graduate and cannot wait to see what the future holds for is super edumakated ass!

We always welcome our good friend Jon Allen to the stage whenever we get a chance, and if you have not had a chance please check out his band (that also features Craig on Guitar, Beard on Bass and Chris Worfel on Drum at www.reverbnation.com/sleepjon.  We had a great time and we sounded great.

In other news Craig finally wised up and decided to bring out THE ES335 that he won at the Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival last summer (video of him playing just after he won it below).  If you have not heard this thing yet you really are missing out!  It is quite possibly one of the most beautiful sounding guitars on the planet and Craig is shredding  on this thing like it is his job… wait… it is. ;)

We have an action packed summer planned and cannot wait to make you dance!

The funds raised go to support the “Creativity For Kids” program over at WonderRoot. WonderRoot is an incredible organization doing AMAZING things for Atlanta’s Art Community. The Creativity for Kids programs aims to keep art and music education in the lives of Atlanta’a youth. Groovemuse and the Brotherland are thrilled to have the opportunity to support such an amazing cause and group of people! After over a year of holding together the low end sounds of the Brotherland Tyler Jones has decided to head back to Tampa. He will be missed… be sure to show some love for the next month for it will be the last run with the Brotherland for T – Payne!! He will be missed.

We had a blast met some incredible people and alsmost lost the van!

Dunedin was a great time, we ran into some old friends and drank some awesome beer! The Trio headlined and they are unbelievable! We headed to Orlando after a warm afternoon on the beach and made it about half way when the van decided she had had enough of the Florida heat. We were stranded on I4 for almost 2 hours trying to remove the thermostate and Craig’s superhuman strength actually broke the bolt off! By this time the van had cooled down just enought to get us to Orlando.

We made it to Orlando and with some help from the incredible staff at Scruffy Murphy’s we were back on our feet with beer in hand! So long story short… love clearwater, iphones are not water-proof, check your thermostat, F&*$ UHaul, gas is expensive, Orlando is nice but kinda ghetto, Go USA!, never stay at the Howard Vista, Travelodge is whats up, we love both of the Scruffy’s, Big Comfy and Silky star in Crazy Nights into Crazy Flights, we love Ostrich, Matt, Paul, Tracey, DJ, Big Todd, Mikey (the fat one), lesbians, Dunedin Brewery, Matt at DB, the psychic Road Runner employee, Donie, Brian, Kaitlyn, Erin, Juan, and the dude that fixed the van!
